Does Tulane accept letter of continued interest? should they be in mail or are they accepted by email? My semester ends next week, so I would sent it then when my school sends my mid year report.
LOCIās should be sent immediately. Quite honestly, it may be too late. Itās been over a month since EA was released.
@yungshey My daughter is going to apply before the deadline
@yungshey I am also starting a thread for this program
I would have sent it out immediately but my mid report grades are getting sent out next week so I am sending it with them, is that still fine?
@beng1214 If it was my son I would have had him send the letter the day after the deferral. For a school like Tulane, it may very well be too late but Iām not in admissions and anything anyone tells you is speculation. I think an LOCI sent nearly 6 weeks after the deferral is possibly not going to be looked at favorably. I would at the very least send it today.
Do folks think that most of the EA deferred applicants who get accepted wonāt find out until mid/late March? I know weāve seen posts from one who got in already and one who was rejected, but are those anomalies? I originally thought nobody would hear anything until mid/late March, but now Iām wondering to what extent theyāre trickling the decisions out before then. Thanks!
Do you guys know if itās true that you can negotiate with the FA office for more aid of any kind? I was accepted ED2 with a very small loan and while I knew Tulane had a reputation for being stingy with their FA, I didnāt expect to get this little. Iāve heard from multiple people that theyāve gotten more by calling the FA office and explaining the situation/negotiating but when I attempted to for the first time they didnāt seem very open to the idea. Thoughts?
@zgreen247 You should contact Financial Aid and possibly fill out the Reconsideration Form (http://www2.tulane.edu/financialaid/steps/forms.cfm) if your finances have changed. It could be that your FAFSA Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is out of sync with your current financial situation since it is āPrior Prior Year.ā If there is a significant difference it will be worth filling out the forms. Hope this helps.
S just received a very generous FA package for ED2. Thanks Tulane! Really grateful and excited for him! Good luck to all still waiting to hear!
@4kids4colleges so happy for you! I have a friend who received the same! Best of luck!
Thank you so much @collegemom9! Shocked and amazed. Best of luck to your family as well!
@4kids4colleges how did you get the FA package? Iām still struggling with mine because it was so little
@zgreen247 we did not do anything special, just submitted the usual FA forms. Tulane met about 95% of our demonstrated need based on EFC. Package includes scholarship, loans, work study. How does your package compare to your EFC? That is the key number. If you have an EFC of $60k or more, for example, you are not going to get much at Tulane or anywhere else. If your EFC number is much lower than that, you should contact FA for sure.
@4kids4colleges Congrats on the FA. Our EFC is high, so we arenāt expecting much for our son. We have a significant amount of income that is highly variable. We can afford about 1/3 of our EFC, and our son will take the subsidized loans. He got. 22k merit scholarship for Tulane. There is a gap that we canāt fill. We wonāt let him take on another $100k in debt on top of his federal loans, and we arenāt going to roll the dice on our retirement with Plus loans. There are two more kids right behind this one, and we want them all educated. He applied for the PTA and we are hoping for a miracle. He is very hopeful, but I really donāt think he will be able to go. It has been nice sharing the community here. All the kids will end up in their feet wherever they end up. We applied for FA just so we could get the loans and just in case. We will see soon enough.
@elodyCOH I totally understand. Two of our four are in college now. We were full-pay when we applied for the first two, so relied heavily (exclusively) on merit. Then things changedā¦a lot. Our first kid was waitlisted at Tulane, but no way we could have paid for her, even with merit. She has gotten a fantastic education at a private liberal arts college for the price of a state school, no regrets. You are in a tough spot, and I know it well. We are in a tough spot right now for other reasons, but at least Tulane gets it. Best of luck to you.
This may be a silly question, but applied RD and Gibson portal now shows sn area for fund and term next to my admission decision pending status. Wondering if they are just updating everyoneās portals
@lavendermary I applied ED2 and the same thing happened to me a few days before they sent me my acceptance, I also know the same thing happened for many other people who later got accepted too. Not sure if this is the same deal so donāt take my word for it though.
@lavendermary @zgreen247 Ours now shows the same thing, but in this case weāre deferred early action
