Tulane Class of 2024 DHS, PTA, Stamps

@KKreis if you don’t mind sharing, what were your daughter’s stats?

@millburn I got into honors with a 1550 SAT and a 4.05 GPA (#1 of 318)

Like most of the people on here she has great stats, so I don’t know what made her stand out. 36 ACT, all As, as many honors/AP courses as our school allows (we have restrictions on the number taken for wellness issues), Mock Trial State Champion, Slam Poetry, several plays produced at local theater, Coolidge Senator, both breadth and depth in her community service which also tie into her future intentions.

Has anyone received one of these scholarships and been an ED (1 or 2) applicant?

While not very “fair”, I’m wondering if these full tuition scholarships are awarded strategically to EA students as a way of “luring” them into committing to Tulane?

If I were Tulane and wanted to make the best use of my dollars that’s exactly what I would do.

@KKreis congrats and good luck to your daughter during the Stamps interview(s).

@millburn I don’t think there is a way to figure it all out - with the holistic approach used by most (if not all) colleges, there is no set formula. If you DM me I can share his stats with you, although I am not sure it will be helpful b/c of the holistic approach.

I appreciate the (s) !!! Fingers crossed.

Tulane is a great school, clearly rising in popularity, but there’s some number fudging going on here. According to the CDS data set Tulane got 1659 ED applications last year thus a 35% increase would be 2239 ED applications this cycle. Jeff Schiffman, director of admissions was quoted on Jan 22nd 2020 as saying Tulane had a 27% increase in EDI admissions (2106 applicants) and admitted exactly 631 students for the class of 2024 through ED1. Perhaps they admitted another 133 students through EDII? That would give them 767 students admitted from EDI and EDII, with an expected incoming class size of 1875. Is 767 half of 1875? Not quite. But it sure helps Tulane’s yield. And drives down the acceptance rate for EA/RD since they’re only looking for another 1000 or so students. All good news for those who like to keep score by the numbers…

They won’t accept only 1000 more students in RD since not all of them will enroll. So, even though they only have space for 1000 more kids, I’m sure they will accept at least three times that.

@chillout2020 You’re forgetting about all the kids who applied ED and got Spring. Those kids haven’t had to commit yet.

Can you apply to Tulane RD and still get merit scholarships?

My son applied RD and got accepted today!! YAY! He did not get any information about merit scholarships though… does anyone know how we would find out?

Do you know how likely it is to get a bump up on scholarship $? My son heard that a Florida student asked for a match of the Florida bright futures, about $6,800, and the Tulane agreed. Anyone else hear such a story? Thanks.

Good for you! I’m hoping to boost DD’s money because it appears she may get a large offer from another school. We know she’s a finalist for a big scholarship and will get something; we don’t know how much yet.

However, Tulane has her heart and she’d commit in a split second if she knew we could. Our wallets just aren’t there yet.

Did you ask them to match the amount your son received, or the net cost to your family? Inquiring minds need to know.

Hi!!! I’m in the same boat. I’m an admitted student whose top choice is Tulane, unfortunately, my family is not able to afford it. If you find any other routes to get more merit aid or aid at all please let me know it is my dream. I’ve tried financial aid, however, I was not offered any and they do not accept appeals for grants.

What we’re doing is getting on Naviance and College Board (“Big Future”) and identifying scholarships for which to apply and applying. It’s lots of work, but people have had some success doing this. At some point, I’m hoping to convince my spouse that we have enough extra via scholarships to justify a little austerity budgeting or borrowing against retirement accounts or our house, etc. to make up the difference.

Daughter has also received generous scholarships from other places. At this point, we know she will go to college debt-free somewhere. It’s just not where she wants to be. I’d move heaven and earth to get her to Tulane instead.

he applied regular and already heard??
