Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

@NYCpls 44,000? That’s a lot more than I was expecting

@NYCpls What is your source for the application numbers and ED numbers? Thanks.

It is a guess, application and offer numbers have not been released by the university.

Didn’t Tulane have about 30,000 (or a few thousand less than) applications TOTAL last year? 44,000 applicants in early rounds does not seem realistic.

Has anyone received an EA decision?

@“paying for college” I received my decision quite some time ago. They’ve been trickling in since around November 25th, but they’re far from done. I saw someone say that every EA applicant will have heard back by this Tuesday (December 20th), and that sounds like a safe bet to me. Best wishes!

@keurig83 my bad, the number was actually 22,256, according to an article in the New York Times. 44,000 was from a few years back when they had taken away the application fee for the first time. This year’s early admissions rate fell from 35 to 29% and 6480 early applicants have been admitted this year, according to the same spokesperson in the NYT article. @nannypoo and @ncmotherofthree I think you need to reevaluate your definition of a safety school. Any school with an acceptance rate below 50% shouldn’t be considered a safety school by any means. Applying early does not necessarily mean that you will get admitted, something that many people forget.

@789frizbee I think you should still be excited! A lot of other schools, such as USC and Northeastern, offer spring admission as well. Don’t take it or leave it just yet, put all of your apps out there for RD and if spring is still your best option, then take it!

Wait but what about those who haven’t heard, does that mean rejection?

@ScaredofSchool I think that number includes people who haven’t heard as well.

Congratulations! Do you mind sharing your scores?

The New York Times article also said last year’s regular admission rate was 7 percent. Is that actually true? It seems so low.

Article about the 130 applicants. I can’t wait to find out ea on tuesday.

@NYCpls wow, that is still an impressive number . Thanks for sharing!

The NY Times article says that 6,480 students have been admitted EA or ED so far.

According to College Data, 6,891 students were admitted early last year.

If these numbers are accurate, it would appear that the majority of students waiting to hear (including my seemingly well qualified son) are going to be deferred or rejected.

I sincerely hope that my analysis is faulty and would appreciate any responses.

@HoldensDad I think the “6480” number includes kids who haven’t heard yet.

I really hope you’re right but the Times article says they have “admitted 6,480” and not will be admitting 6,480 or something like that.

@NYCpls You need to re-read my post. I was saying Tulane is not a safety school. I was responding to some parents idiotic post criticizing Tulane’s admissions process and bragging that her daughter got into her ED school and only applied to Tulane because the application fee was free. She was basically stating that Tulane was a safety school for her daughter and I was saying they are far from a safety school and they don’t want to be known as that.

Are people thinking that all EA decisions that come out on Tuesday are going to be regections and deferrals?

@tem339 i sure hope not :frowning:

If the Facebook group is any hint, and the NYT article is true, 6480 applicants have been accepted, and there are only 1,427 in the FB group right now.

That leaves about 5000 to be decided, then, if those numbers are correct (even if we assume that 1000 of those accepted did not join Facebook, it still leaves about 4000).

I hope my figuring is correct.
