I recently got accepted to the Tulane engineering school. I visited and loved it, but don’t know how the school itself is rated. Any input? Also, can you rank these engineering schools in order of best to “worst”:

Vanderbilt
Tulane
U. of Mich. - AA
U. of Kansas
U. of Colorado

Tulane engineering may not be the “best” engineering school, but it’s not bad at all. My brother is currently 4th year in the engineering school. He also has a job through it - he does research with some grad students. He really enjoys that.

My son is a freshman in engineering at Tulane. He turned down Engineering Honors at UT to attend Tulane because of the small class size, access to the professors and research opportunities. My husband is an EE. His take on engineering schools is that the best schools teach you how to think and adapt because what you learn to do technically will be outdated in a couple of years or less. I think in that respect that there are many engineering schools in this country that can fit that bill and that you are better off picking a school that is a fit for you in other ways as well. From your post, it sounds like Tulane could be that school.

As far as academics are concerned, my son is studying like he has never studied before and is very challenged. He is quite happy having a tenured professor as his academic advisor and feels like he has been getting good advice from him. The average SAT of the freshman engineering class this year was a 1344, so the instructional pace is brisk. One fourth of the freshmen were DHS and DSA. I have no idea of the number of Founder’s Awards were are. My son wanted a school that would provide him with a good undergrad experience. So far, so good.
