My D was waitlisted. Interesting to compare my two D’s experiences - may be helpful to future applicants. We did everything right for D1 & all wrong for D2.
D1 - GPA about 3.8 UW / SAT in high 1400s / 9 or 10 APs with 3s, 4s, 5s - we did a campus visit, she applied EA, and she submitted a video of her singing (she was planning a vocal performance major). She also applied for the Deans Honor / Paul Tulane scholarships although she didn’t receive one. Result - admitted with $25K per year merit.
D2 - GPA 3.8 UW / SAT 1540 / NMF / 9 APs - all 5s: no campus visit (although she did attend a couple of local events), applied EA but got bumped to RD because mom (hides face in shame) got her GC’s email address wrong on the app & the high school report didn’t arrive in time. No portfolio to submit. D did not submit DH/PT apps out of application weariness. Result - waitlisted.
So lesson learned - do a campus visit, apply EA, apply for the DH and PT even if only to show that you’re really interested. Have something a little extra to offer outside of academics. (And of course, have those stats!)
