@TheFrenchChef and @AH1310 Same here, son admitted EA last year (from Chicago) with no offer for alumni interview
My son has not yet applied to Tulane and he got the ED2 email.
IIRC they only recently (s in the past 2 years or so) started to offer alum interviews.
My son had the interview button in his portal within 2-3 days of applying, so it is highly unlikely they had even looked at his application yet. Given how sophisticated college admissions is these days, I doubt interviews are totally random. But I also doubt they mean much. Possibly interviews are a way to test applicant interest? As I mentioned earlier, Tulane hit our radar late so we haven’t had a chance to visit.
Coincidentally, we are Chicago too (the city).
How do you request an interview after applying EA?
@maril555 - Some applicants will receive an invitation to request an interview via a form in their green wave portal. However, it sounds like not all students will get this interview form
Daughter just got an email:
Early Action letters will head out for most students in late December. Green Wave portals will be updated at 3:30 PM on December 19th.
Agree with Funnydad… my D applied EA last year, received this same email regarding ED2 in November the. Received admission in December. (We did NOT take the ED2 offer because we were waiting on a few fellowships she applied for). She’s there now and loves it.
FWIW, D20 who applied EA had her alumni interview over the phone today. Went well, talked with the alum for about 45 minutes.
My son did his interview before Thanksgiving. The interviewer said the interview was mainly to talk about Tulane and what it has to offer.
My daughter’s interview was this past weekend. She expected a more informal conversation about Tulane since that is what we had read on here to expect, but the interviewer spent the half hour asking my daughter questions and writing down her answers. It’s interesting the formats have been different.
Are merit scholarships released together with EA decisions?
S20 did not get offered an interview. I know it says it doesn’t matter, but I do find it worrisome. We’re in New York City, so plenty of alum around!
D had her interview this past weekend. Fairly informal and relaxed with an alum who graduated 3-4 years ago. D said the interviewer did most of the talking and offered her own story as to why she chose Tulane.
Quick question to those who had interviews: did the banner in your portal asking you to contact the interviewer disappear after the interview? It’s been a few days since my daughter’s interview, and the portal still advises her to contact the interviewer. Just wondering if this means the school hasn’t been updated about the interview?
@momof3co my daughter’s banner is gone.
Back to EA/EDII conversation- someone said elsewhere that they thought the email students got implied that the applicant could apply to tulane EDII while still waiting to hear from ANOTHER school EDI. This does not seem possible, so I am guessing perhaps someone misread the email they got. Can someone please copy/paste the email that went out to applicants about EDII. I’ve read Jeff’s blog but someone suggested the email was worded differently. TIA
@jym626 This is what my son received:
Thank you for applying to Tulane University. We’re working to get all Early Action applicants their decision in a few short weeks. Best of luck!
We are contacting you with information on the Early Decision II application process. ED II is a great option for students who have applied EA to but have now decided that Tulane is their first choice school. Like ED I, ED II is a binding application.
EA applicants can opt to switch their application to ED II by January 6 and will receive an admission decision by January 18. The January 6 deadline also means that students can wait to switch to ED II until after they have received their EA admission decision. Applicants can make the switch to ED II in their Green Wave Portals by clicking the button below.
@Illinoismom23 Thank you! Too funny I asked about it today, because the banner just disappeared sometime this afternoon.
No interview offered to my daughter either. This seems like a bad sign… does anyone know how they choose kids to interview?
