Tulane University Early Decision / Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

My Stamps daughter says she heard there are 8-9 students interviewing for Stamps.

My daughter received one of the Community Service Fellowships and letter said ‘top 15 students’, so I guess that is given to 15 kids.

Any good news on Friday?

Son got an email saying accepted after deferral into honors scholars program and with $15K/year scholarship. It’s great but still got to come up with that other $50K/year!

I saw the financial aid is updated. Doesn’t look like FAFSA has been received yet. Will FAFSA change the COA ?

If you’re trying to get a definitive answer on that I would reach out to the FAO at the school.

My GUESS is that unless there is a disconnect between what your FAFSA says and what’s on your CSS (and signed tax return which you would have submitted) the financial aid award you got from the school is going to be pretty accurate.

Update

After they gave me my financial aid package in the portal and the FA person said to me in person that it was final pending fafsa, they took the entire aid award away because apparently when they gave it to me, they hadn’t looked at my noncustodial parents financial info. They just recently decided to look at it, and decided to take the fa award away.

So actually, kids of divorced parents be aware that they may take away or severely reduce your aid. I’m really upset that they would even give me a number without looking at everything (that I had already provided them!!) first.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. This exact thing almost happened to me in the 1980s (different school) after I was already enrolled and during the middle of the first semester. It’s just awful and I really hope it all works out for you.

Yeah. I’m just really upset and mad because why on earth would they give me an aid amount, tell me it’s final pending fafsa, then take it away mid-March because they didn’t look at information they’ve had on file for months until now??? It seems really disorganized and inconsiderate.

Did you get any other scholarships? My daughter got a scholarship and after that they took away the need based aid.

I got a 30k merit award, but when I went to an admitted student’s event and talked directly to the aforementioned financial aid person, they confirmed that my package was the 30k merit + TOPS (Louisiana scholarship) + financial aid. No replacement

@elise123 @Brodaddy - at most college/universities Scholarships and Aid do not stack. The scholarship is considered part of the aid package. An increase to the scholarship will result in a decrease to any need based aid the school is giving you. The only families that really benefit from the scholarships are those that the scholarship amount gets them below the expected student cost EFC/SAI/NPC.

If you get a scholarship from the outside that too will reduce your need based award from the school. Larger outside scholarships are often payable directly to the school.

I agree that it’s really inexcusable that they would give you an award without having done a complete review of the submission and then changed it. It is common practice to consider the non-custodial parents finances as part of the picture. If the non-custodial parent is absentee and in no way in the students life there are paths you can take to request that be considered.

Spring Scholar sounds pretty great outcome then!!! Congrats1

Hi!! I have about a 92.16 unw and a 94.3 weighted on a number scale. My school calculates gpa differently and I go to a rigorous public high school on Long Island so the weighted gpa would be different, however I know they recalculate. I did not submit my sat scores to Tulane. I applied ED and showed a lot of demonstrated interest. It has been my dream school for 5 years now. I have good, unique extra curriculars like being selected to play in Barcelona with professional soccer players on the female and male pro teams. Additionally I was a model in New York fashion week, I am im an award winning high school orchestra and I’m in 1st violin. I have been a varsity soccer player since my 8th grade year as well as a varsity flag football player. There is more but it’s a lot to write down right now haha. For the academic extracurriculars I have National Honor society and National Spanish Honor Society. As well as being a varsity scholar athlete all four years of highschool. Additionally I am a registered volunteer for island harvest which is a charity dedicated to food distribution for the homeless all over Long Island. I also have many other community service hours, and I have work experience as well. I am a Hispanic Jew who has a very diverse background, as well as a good college essay. I was able to wright a good “why Tulane “ essay because of how much I adore the school. GUYS I REALLLLYY WANT TO GET IN!!! I hope I do. Thoughts??

This is the thread for last year. The good news is that if you applied ED, you’ll know your decision tomorrow night.
