Tulane University Early Decision / Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Accepted EA OOS with merit scholarship
33 ACT 3.9/4.8
12 APs (5s except 2 4s)
Work 20 hours a week since 14
Tons of ECs as varsity/club year around athlete, musical awards, started two clubs and hundreds of hours of service to local government and non-profits; state awards in ECs and coaches awards
Demonstrated interest with weekend on campus, meeting admissions counselor and asking questions to current students as provided by admissions

Not first acceptance but surprised bc it’s so competitive except ED rounds. My why essay was not my best but love Tulane so maybe it showed. Received some great merit and hope for more if I can attend.

Although my daughter would love to attend, she has already received full-ride offers so it depends if she is awarded one of the scholarships. This is her first choice and we hope it works out financially as she is beyond thrilled and grateful!

Congrats on the acceptance but also on the full ride.

Heads you win. Tails…you win.

Accepted EA today, I thought all of the scholarship / merit aid offers were in the letter? We did not receive any merit money in the letter. Are there post-acceptance scholarships available?

The big scholarship programs that require a separate application are given later. My friend attending Tulane said they came back for her in March. Some people got merit scholarships ranging up to $32,000 in the letter (according to the website) based on just their application.

Accepted EA! 4.0 UW GPA, 36 ACT. In state. 7 APs (four 5s, one 4), currently taking 5 more. Average ECs, good Why Tulane essay, and being in-state gives an admissions boost. Demonstrated interest with a virtual campus tour (didn’t have time to get down there) and engaging with my admissions counselor who visited my school. $30,000 merit!

Hoping the high initial merit scholarship is an indicator that I’ll likely get a bigger one later since $30,000 at Tulane is still somehow just a drop in the bucket. Got into the freshman honors scholars thing, but I’m still trying to figure out exactly what that is. At least 8 people from my school got in this round including my closest friends so we’re happy!!

My daughter was accepted: GPA 4.3W/3.98UW, SAT 1480, 7APs. $20K in merit. This is not her first choice, but glad to have it as an option!

Don’t be hesitant to go back to Tulane AO with the information that there’s a full ride elsewhere - provided that it would be seen as a “peer institution” to Tulane. Merit IS negotiable at most places but be prepared to put it in the context of “Hey, I got a full scholarship at XYZ and while I’m happy about that Tulane is my #1 choice. I need the financial picture to be a little closer though and if you’re able to do that you have your next Tulanian!”. Be specific what you need and let them know you’re prepared to commit if they get you there.

Thank you Mashinations for this information!

Was accepted Early Action by Tulane, does anyone know if they’ll mail in a physical acceptance package / letter?

Last year there was definitely a letter. Don’t recall if there was a package with schwag or not.

How likely are ED applicants considered to receive scholarship (DHS and Paul Tulane) ? Does EA applicants get priority over ED applicants ? My D has applied for these scholarships but want to know if EA applicants are given priority over ED.

Anecdotally more likely but it’s anecdotal.

Why give money to people already bound ? They do some but I think for appearances do they can say.

You’ll find out regardless but a school has little reason to give an ED applicant money.

That’s my hypothesis.

Agree with the Hypothesis but if the school knows they’re going to need to give need-based aid anyhow (to a particular student) they could mask it as merit scholarship. In any case it amounts to a tuition reduction but might make a school look like they give more merit. Not sure if there’s a reason to do one over the other as far as published statistics.

S24 accepted EA, $25k merit, honors.
4.0 UWGPA, 34 ACT, weak ECs except strong academic EC.
We need need-aid, and NPC suggests a reasonable number, but we’ll wait and see.

We found NPC was reasonably accurate but expect them to consider that $25k towards it. Congratulations to your son!

Yes, I think you’re right that our net price will be largely determined by need-aid, and the merit aid will just be absorbed into that. But the merit/honors act as a kind of demonstrated interest that the college has in the student.

@BrownRiceS24D27D29 we are very much in your same situation. My child has similar stats and was accepted with 25k merit and honors. I’m sure my husband has completed NPC so need to ask him. Just hoping for a little additional aid to help lesson the financial burden.

I agree I hope the merit/honors demonstrates the potential they see and can help.

Congrats on acceptance!!!
