Tulane's prestige?

Out of curiosity, how prestigious is Tulane University? My mother told me that Tulane used to be really hot back in the day. Is it still “hot” now? Because, I’m considering going there.

it depends where you live. If you mean prestige nation wide. Then no, tulane is know known nation wide. Go online and talk to some of your friends on the internat and ask them if they have ever heard of tulane. Alot of my friends from the west have never heard of the school. And most of my friends from the northeast, who’s currently attending the school, told me that the only reason they knew about tulane was because tulane kept on sending them emails and finished applications, etc…

As for the south, Tulane is relatively popular. I mean it’s the best in Louisiana, anyway. IT also has a strong alumni network.

Alittle note, when you look at the school forget about prestige. Attend the school because it will offer the atmosphere you will like or because it offers the academic stimulation you long for. If you are choosing a school on whether it is prestigous or not, you will find that wen you attend the school prestige will mean nothing anymore.

Good answer Hnbui… My son is a freshman, and Tulane wasn’t even on his radar screen since he was coming from a very prestigious day school in Boston, but he went to visit after receiving all his acceptances and fell in love with the city and the school. He didn’t get into his first choice school, but he was admitted to some very prestigious schools, but he wanted a best fit. He is absolutely loving it, but is just a little nervous about rush this week.

Oh, my Jamismom again! So you have an S at Tulane and a D at Miami! Can you talk a little about how the two schools compare - academically, socially, etc.? They are my S’s top two choices. He is in at both but we are awaiting merit money decisions and trying to decide what we’d do if the merit money didn’t come through… The wait is very hard for us all.

Hmm, I know quite a few kids apply to both Miami and Tulane - I think I may start a new thread just to compare them, but in the parents forum.

Jamismom,
Rush makes the second semester very hard. If I can pass on some motherly advise; tell your son to keep up with his work. Rush and pledging is very time consuming; those grades can slide quickly, I know this first hand! Any idea which frats he is looking at? I might be able to get some inside scoop for you (wink wink!!)
