Need the help of CC hive. We used the Turbo Tax CD download and paid with our Citi. We got the alert on phone and also saw the amount pending on account. Now, the account no longer shows pending nor is there a charge. Citi states Auth falls off in a couple days and no charge has been received.
To make matters worse, there was an unidentified charge on the account. CITI decided to replace the card but assured me no impact to the charge that was already authorized.
We are unable to resubmit on Turbo. Tried reaching out to Turbo, but everlasting hold, so we’ve left our number for a call back.
Well…if that is the case…and the Direct pay is down…
I would suggest that the OP contact Citi and make it VERY clear that they do NOT want their money taken out of their Citi account.
Then print out the tax return, and payment slip…and head to the post office…and mail the payment using a check. I forget whether the mail in option gives you a credit card payment option…we got a refund so didn’t look.
Yup, all the major media outlets are reporting troubles with IRS electronic submissions today, inc those linked to TurboTax. IRS reported they will not penalize for late returns. Personally, we would just submit on paper today and write the check, and call Citi to cancel payment. DH is paranoid about this stuff – we don’t pay to submit our state return electronically, and he asked me four times yesterday if I mailed it. Yes, dear, at the MV PO, in an actual main box at 2:47 pm on April 16th!
I’m glad that we always try to get taxes done a few days prior to the deadlines just because I’m always worried about glitches like these. Just like we TRY to get our “kids” to try to get things in with a cushion before deadlines, with varying success.
D nearly got her transfer application rejected because she applied by HI time, not CA time (tho the school is in CA). She was lucky that she was able to get them to still give her app proper consideration and vowed she learned her lesson (at least a little).
I’m usually doing taxes on the last day because I try to get them in a few days earlier but something goes wrong (printer, can’t find a form) and blah blah blah, I’m filing on the last day.
This year, I was away this weekend so started them last Monday. Took until Thursday. Well, one I had to get an extension for because a SSN was wrong on the W2. Always something. Anyway, I did schedule the state and federal payments on the return that owed taxes to be taken on the 16th and 17th. The returns were accepted last week, so I’ll have to see if they actually take the payment this week.
Thanks @thumper1 and @gosmom. We submitted this on Thursday and did see the authorization alert. Citi has informed us that authorization falls off after a couple days and the merchant can submit the charge later. Hopefully, with he extra day we can view the IRS site to see that the payment has been applied.
