Wondering if anyone has experience with electric turkey roasters? I hate to purchase another item, but only have one oven and it is hard to do Thanksgiving (and other holidays) for over 20 with one oven. Someone at work said it worked great, but would love to hear from others. If you have one, can it be used for other purposes? Thanks!
My mother has one of those counter top electric oven things that works on a turkey, it’s great.
My H smokes turkeys in a huge ceramic Komodo like the ones sold at Costco. They are divine and the favorite way of enjoying turkey—moist and delicious!
If you really don’t want to get another appliance… Do you have a gas grill? I grill our turkeys.

This method really works. I grilled 12 pounders to 18 pounders using the timed flip method.
I have one. I don’t usually cook turkey nowadays as my D and SIL have hosted Thanksgiving since they bought their house. He grills the turkey and it is yummy. When I did used to cook Turkey it was great and really took the stress off of trying to fit stuff in the oven and time things. We usually do a prime rib for Christmas and I do that in the turkey roaster - it comes out great. Evenly cooked all the way through. It was a good investment even though it is only used once or twice a year (just for the stress reduction element alone!)
I have a roaster and also love it. It takes about half the time and I put it either in the garage or outside so it doesn’t overheat the house.
At this time of year they get really cheap. I bought one for about $18 (18 qut) a couple of years ago for a school banquet thing and I am amazed at how handy it is. It just looks so unlikely. If I see them that cheap I wouldn’t hesitate about picking up another.
Yes, we use one because we only have one oven and one large countertop oven.
We cook 1 turkey on the grill and 1 in a Nesco roaster. We have a large family and I need every inch of oven space. T-day is the only time I use the roaster but I’ve used it for many years now and lent it out as well. It was a worthwhile purchase.I have to say though the turkey on the grill turns out better.
Thanks all! I am concerned about using the grill and having to be out there watching it. Seems like the roaster could also be used at other holidays for things besides turkey. At one point we had an over the range mircrowave that was also a convection oven, but gave that up for a real oven hood. So seems like it makes sense to purchase this, since no room for a second oven.
I have used it for chili for 36 volleyball kids, pasta bake for 30 plus, I use it to heat up mince pies on xmas morning or croissants, I use it to take samosas and bhaji when I am taking those for a curry party and I know there won’t be oven space at the hosts. I don’t think I have actually used it for a turkey LOL.
