Turkey's Secret Police

Here is a link from NY Times. Unbelievable.

The good news is that all of them have been accepted to Middlebury.

Some of the goons are American citizens. They should be charged.

Not surprising, Erdogan is a cautionary tale IMO about what happens with so called “populist” movements that are spring up all over, generally rather than creating an environment of individual rights (which ironically the ‘populist’ movements claim to represent), what you often end up with is empowered fascist or fascist like governments. Erdogan combined populism with strong support from Islamists in Turkey who were upset that Turkey has always been a strongly ecumenical country since the founding of the modern country by Attaturk, and like with many such governments that come into power, despite all the abuses (and probably because of it) he retains a lot of popular approval, not much different than Putin in Russia, or the far right governments in places like Hungary, the more these ‘populists’ lay down the iron fist, the more the supporters seem to defend them.

As far as the US goes, they won’t do anything, because they see Turkey as a Muslim ally they can use in their struggle against Islamic extremism or as an intermediary in the mess with Israel and other issues, so they aren’t exactly going to do much.In theory the US cops could have stepped in and beat the crap out of the guys in black suits, diplomatic immunity might keep them from being arrested, but doesn’t give them carte blanche to commit assault like that, but I suspect the cops were told to stand down by feds because they didn’t want to ‘create an incident’.

There is an old expression for places like Turkey and Saudi Arabia, with friends like that, who needs enemies?

Let’s not forget the Turks were paying Mike Flynn to scheme a way to kidnap Fethullah Gulen and send him back to Turkey so Erdogan can execute him.

Perhaps Erdogan doesn’t realize that many Americans own guns. Next time, they might use them in self defense.

Or elected to represent Montana in Congress.

Find the ones who are here and prosecute them to the fullest. If they are here on a green card, deport their rear ends back.

This is DC. The only people with guns are the police and the criminals.

Regarding the latter, deport them only after they are prosecuted to the fullest…including freezing all their assets so they could be used to for compensating the victims and paying fines/court costs.

Being in Istanbul, and making the mistake of uttering “kurds” in public, I will attest that Turks have no tolerance for the Kurds. They don’t recognize them and call them “mountain Turks.” It’s not just support, but recognition of the Kudish people may produce sanctioned violence.

They still refuse to admit they killed Armenians 100 years ago.

Two weeks later and no strong statement from our leadership. An attack by government officials on our shores against U.S. citizens and it’s okay I guess. Karma seems to be taking her time.

Such a shame

“.including freezing all their assets so they could be used to for compensating the victims and paying fines/court costs.”

all payouts from frozen Iranian money for victims of their terrorist attacks around the world were never approved, what makes you think Turkish money for beating people will not be protected in the same way? in fact obama before leaving office shipped billions of frozen dollars back to iran in foreign currency on secret missions that became not so secret.http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-iran-payment-cash-20160907-snap-story.html (the actual full amount was between 30-100 billions+ total)
so the idea of freezing turkish assets for this is pie in the sky.

GTalum turkey is active in the slaughter of the kurdish people , which goes a lot past “no tolerance”

The money given to Iran was Iran’s money from the 1970’s and its return was mandated by the World Court. Totally different case so please don’t try to distract the issue.

I’m glad the Oklahoma Thunder player got back into the US where he can safely remain. Turkey is becoming really frightening.

“mandated by the World Court. Totally different case so please don’t try to distract the issue.”
that is spin. but you go with that. I will stick with reality and it was absurd and that money will be used to fund Iranian terror activity around the world.

and the world court also mandated shipping foreign currency secretly on pallets to try and get around united states law ?

I hope that the attackers will all be identified. So far, journalists have been doing a good job at beginning that by carefully taking apart those videos. When facial recognition software is added, they can be prevented from entering the US at least and if they are already here, can be charged.

zobroforward - what you are saying is irrelevant to this discussion.

greenwitch the point is missed by you. if you think that iran which was convicted in a US court of murdering americans in terrorist attacks was protected from paying from funds already frozen in the US there is zero chance that turkey or any turkish person involved in beating up people in D.C. will pay even 1 penny.

the fact the money was smuggled back to iran in such a manner by the president of the united states is just a creepy extra tid bit. (they were also given a lot of other goodies too)

not irrelevant perhaps something that you know was wrong and you do not want to talk about. but if that is the gauge I promise you I am correct on the turkish situation.
