Turkish Towels

D1 has requested some turkish bath towels for her birthday. Something soft and on the thin side but absorbent.

I have a couple myself that I prefer but just happened to find them at Target when there were only a couple left.

I’d prefer not to spend a fortune - she is still sometimes using laundromat machines - but I’d liked something that also isn’t going to fall apart in a matter of a few months.

Any recommendations of something you have ordered or place you’ve had luck with??? I’m much in favor of ordering online…but don’t really do department stores (odd, I know) - but I’ll look at anything you offer up.

Maybe check the Company Store. They are having a sale right now.

I like the look of turkish towels but have never used them. Does the fringe get messed up quickly?

Mine just have a little fringe - not real thick and not too long - so it’s not a problem. I have noticed that some are REALLY fringed! Will check Company Store - have never bought anything there.

Macy’s is having a two day sale 60 percent off. Look online. Hotel collection.

The ones I have I use to death. Again, in the minority I think, but I HATE a thick plush towel!

I purchased several Hotel Collection towels from Macys and I;ve been happy with them, but they are not Turkish.

I need new towels. Pardon my ignorance but what are Turkish towels?

Isn’t that Cultural Appropriation?

Here is a little explanation and some pictures. They are often larger, thiner, soft but not coarse and often have fringe:

I’m a big fan of Company Store.

I recently shopped for thin, quick drying towels. I considered Turkish towels but did not like the fringe. I got these waffle weave towels that we really like.

I’m also not a fan of fringes, especially if you have to periodically tighten them. Also the turkish towels sound more like bath sheets or beach towels than bath towels.

H loves think towels that dry fast. I’m thinking he may LOVE these waffle bath towels that @DeniseC recommends. The Katrina survivor has quite an endorsement of them in the reviews.

I’m glad to now know what a Turkish towel is. If I was staying with someone and those were hanging in the bathroom I would have had no clue that they were meant to be used as bath towels! I would probably have wondered why they were hanging their blankets in the bathroom.

I’d just guess they were sarongs, as they are as large (or larger) than the sarongs I see sold around here. I don’t think I’ve ever tried a turkish towel. We have used cotton waffle weave towels as dish towels and like them. I have a waffle weave bathrobe at a ritzy hotel I stayed at once (towels were the thick, plush version though).

@silverlady, I don’t understand your question. Turkish towels are made from Turkish cotton by a company in Turkey. If a country is willing to export its goods I don’t think they’re going to object if people of other nationalities use them.

My young neighbor introduced me to Turkish towels. She keeps a couple in her car and uses them often. They become blankets when her kids are cold. Or, ground cover blankets when she sits down on the sidelines at the soccer field. She uses one as a wrap while at the movies. I’ve even seen her use one as a tablecloth at a cookout. Not sure if she uses them as regular bath towels but they make great beach towels because they dry so quickly. Very versatile! Fringe isn’t really my thing but she gave me one and I must admit it’s come in handy a number of times~

Huh. Live and learn. I always thought Turkish towels were the same as terry cloth towels. Apparently not.

Not all Turkish towels have fringe.

We always got ours from Quiquattro They are a small online company, work with women artisans… Excellent customer service. I bought some for me and some for friends. They are not like the terry towels but great for vacation and especially if you are on a boat, or camping, it dries very fast. No moldy smell. We are very happy with ours.
