This one is a really common thread but I am just curious to see How good is Carleton ?
For me as a int. Student I turned down Grinnell, Mac and a place in waitlist Uni of Chi.

Turned down University of Chicago, Berkeley, and UCLA OOS, but mostly for financial reasons. I did like Carleton a little better than I liked UChicago after visiting both, but I went for Accepted Student Days at Carleton and visited UChicago much, much earlier for only one afternoon. I don’t regret choosing Carleton, but I wish I still had a choice after all of the financial aid stuff came in.

Seeing what other schools people could have gone to is an okay proxy for Carleton’s quality, but not that great since what is more important is what kind of education someone leaves Carleton with than what they forgo to come here. Anyway. I turned down Harvey Mudd, Macalester, MIT, Stanford, University of Washington, and Whitman to go to Carleton. Carleton’s better financial package was the nail in the MIT/Stanford/Harvey Mudd coffin, but it wasn’t so much better that my family and I couldn’t have managed to afford those more engineeringy schools had I really wanted to go to them. No regrets.

turned down middlebury, haverford, grinnell, and University of Oklahoma Honors college. i was leaning towards midd, but the baseball coach at carleton talked to me a lot, and the accepted students weekend was really great (and better than midd’s, in my opinion)
