Turning 60! Holy S.

So I am turning 60 tomorrow.

I do not give a crap if there is a previous thread about this because it is now my time. Mentally it is hard for me. It seems so old.

I had lunch today with 3 ladies I have known since kindergarten. We live far apart but meet several hours drive for each of c xbx xc txcb c. us several times a year. I love these ladies! Thank goodness I have friends also turning 60. We toasted each other with wine and/or captain jack!

Last week I got a survey from a local college professor addressed to “older adults” asking about my need for services. Do I use/need a walker and need assistance walking, eating, etc.? Given the timing I wanted to send it back saying FU.

I realize society thinks I am old, but I do not feel old. I work out 5 days a week and keep up all the intellectual info needed for my job… So Whatever!

I loved my 60th birthday. It was a great time to celebrate…plus it was the year I retired from my longtime job, and my 30th wedding anniversary year.

Just think about all the new senior discounts you are now eligible for! I also joined our senior center. Where else can you take Zumba, yoga, and exercise classes for $3 each?

I go bike riding (weather permitting) with three friends, volunteer at a great place, have time to enjoy my family, and see my friends.

You will only be one day older than yesterday! That is NOT much older!

Remember…sixty is the new forty.

Celebrate! And think how wonderful this birthday is compared to,the alternative!

First of all, I hope you have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow!

This 51-year-old does NOT consider 60 to be old. Ninety is old. I think it’s great that you and your friends since kindergarten get together several times each year. That’s super-special.

I’m just a few years behind you but watch for my post, it will read like yours.

60 is NOT old.

Have a wonderful young birthday!

Sixty is the new 70. ;)

Mini…only for men is 60 the new 70:)

Happy Birthday! My husband will turn 60 in a few months. He is in great shape and most people can’t believe he is that “old.” I am 51 and have a hard time keeping up with him.

My running partner is 63 and she is much faster than I am! Her older cousin recently competed in the world triathlon championship in New Zealand.

My dad is 76. He is still an engineering professor and travels all over the world. He loves teaching and lecturing.

60 is not old!

60 is middle-aged. You aren’t old until you spend your time sitting at home and thinking about the old days. For active people, I would think middle-age extends to 75 to 80 these days.

I hope you have a happy birthday.

I am only a few years behind you. The only age I am looking forward to is when I can raid my 401k without the penalty from IRS. Not that I have any need to raid it now; but I feel that the money all of a sudden becomes available at that magic moment: 59.5 yo.

Yeah…I agree with the above few posts that the physical and mental conditions matter more, not the actual age.

Have a wonderful day. You are about 2/3 through the fun you will have in life.

60 is not old. Whatever age you are is the perfect age.
Happy Birthday!

Ive made some new friends at the pool ( who are in their late. 20’s - early 30’s) and they could not get over that I had a daughter who was 23.
I told them she was my * youngest* and asked them how old they thought I * was?*
They both thought I was 38!!!
After I managed to control myself, I told them, they are my new BFFs!

But seriously, you are as young as you feel and although it takes me several hours in the morning before I don’t feel like a hundred yr old tortoise,:stuck_out_tongue: my health has been improving every day, thanks to my knee transplant & I plan on getting even younger.
It also helps that I am the youngest member of my book group, I was in kindergarten when most of them were in college!

Happy 39th birthday, morrismm! ;)

My H is 70+ and my dad will be 90 in a year. They are both in much better physical, mental, emotional and financial shape than many people a fraction of their ages. Dad golfs and travels as often as he likes, dines out frequently and has a huge circle of friends spanning many generations. He’s been busy wrapping up working with a biographer.

My BIL just turned 60 and was pleased when I told him it just means he qualifies for more discounts until he gets nearly all of them when he turns 65.

Happy birthday, morrismom,

Exactly 2 months from today I will also turn 60, and I can’t wait. I retire in June, and then life part 3 will start. World, here I come.

Happy Birthday! Hope you have a wonderful day…plus!

Happy birthday.

I was thrilled to turn 60. It meant only 5 more years until Medicare and that much closer to my social security checks! I didn’t really like the alternative either. I can’t touch my lifetime PRs from my late 20s, but I am improving on times I ran in my late 40s. :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I am still in the very early 50s and I am feeling the aging every day. While working out 6 days a week, it is taking much longer to recover from a hard run. A pair of heating pads are almost a necessity. On the other hand, I am getting PR on every new race. Has also registered for my very first full Marathon.

Have been talking my our banker and looking forward to retire in 5 year or so. Fingers crossed.

How do you retire if you are dirt poor and your kids qualified for huge need based aid? Is the money overseas or in deferred income?
