After we sold our home last fall, we had to find temporary housing while we looked for our next house. We rented a home from a really beautiful, slim, vivacious woman who has incredible design sense-her clothes were gorgeous, absolutely perfect! I was stunned when she told me she had gone to my high school and had graduated in 1969. I would never have pegged her 61. She’s stunningly beautiful! 61 is certainly not old if you are lucky to have good health and take care of yourself.

Happy Birthday!
My best friend turns 60 in the spring and is currently in phased retirement. I am happy for her. I will retire as soon as I have a grandchild to spend time with - I look forward to that very much.

I admire you for this–I am the exact age you were when you adopted your daughter and I cannot imagine having the energy for a young child right now.

I too look forward to passing the age at which my mom died (63). It’s a milestone many people are lucky enough not to have–the loss of a parent at a relatively young age.

Best wishes for an awesome birthday celebration and a wonderful year ahead! All of us should be thankful we have reached certain ages without too many problems. I’m still in my early 50’s but sometimes feel 10 years older from all the health problems I’ve endured in the last 10 years or so. I won’t be too happy to be 60 either, when the time comes, but when I think of the alternative, I shall celebrate it with enthusiasm! ;)

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. And happy birthday to all of who mentioned having birthdays soon. Unbelievably, I do not feel a day over 59!

It was not a special day in any way. And although I am very grateful for all I have, it also made me realize that I made many mistakes along the road.

I can only hope that, and try to make, the last third (or half haha) will be amazing!!

60 is the new… Nope. 60 is whatever you, your genes and fate allows it to be.

I agree. It’s nice to imagine that X age doesn’t really apply to me because my age is the new 20 years younger age, but the fact of the matter is that family history is very very influential on how we age. Of course, living a pristine life re:diet, exercise, smoking history, drug use, alcohol consumption, exposure to sun, etc., all figure in as well.

If H and I can age as grace as our relatives, we will continue to have a great deal to be grateful for. ;). Actually I do very much like tofu and veggies–not exclusively but quite a lot. Never acquired a taste for tobacco or even much alcohol, but an occasional taste is nice. :)

^^Live it up, Himom, have some steak and wine. It’s good for you!

“Guess it depends on what kind of exercise one chooses”

Heh, heh!! What do they call it, 8 oz curls? Or maybe you were talking about something else. Well, you can’t do any sort of exercise all day. There has to be some lounging. wasting time and bad habits in order to have fun.
