Tutoring/AP History

Hi. I want to hire a tutor to start preparing for the AP US History exam. Would it be a good idea to ask AP US History teachers from other schools to tutor me? (I would ask my own teacher, but I seriously doubt she’d be willing) If I were to e-mail a teacher from another school with this request, how would I phrase the question? Any ideas? Thanks!:)

Why do you need a tutor? A book would be more useful, considering the people writing it know almost exactly what’s going to be on the exam. A tutor is just going to be a waste of your money and your time learning a bunch of things you don’t need to know. If you really think you need help, ask a smart friend or someone who’s taken the test and has gotten a 4 or 5. No teacher is going to waste their personal time driving to your house or school to tutor you, even if they are getting paid. They have real lives too!

i think you should google AP US History. There are wicked amazing site on APUS

I second the recommendation of getting a review book. Basically the only real studying I did for the AP US exam was reading the Princeton Review book the weekend before the test, and I got a 5.

Ask your teacher first. Alot of teachers are willing to help students after school. They’re in no hurry to get home. They always have a ton of crap to do anyway. My APUSH teacher offers tutoring on writing DBQ’s and FRQ’s every Wednesday, and I go to them (I cannot write a DBQ!!).

Thanks for your help everyone! I was looking for a tutor because I have been practicing FRQ’s and I wanted feedback on how to improve my essays. I asked my teacher, but she said she is too busy to look at any of the essays I have written on my own time. Well, thanks again for you advice!

I don’t think tutoring is that essential for APUSH. Get a good AP study book, read it cover to cover (in conjunction with maybe the school textbook), do some practice tests, and you should be fine.
