Hi, I’m tutoring a high school student, and this is my first tutoring job so I’m really excited but I was wondering…how do you ask them to pay after the lesson? What’s a good way to bring it up?

Thanks guys!

Hi, I’m tutoring a high school student, and this is my first tutoring job so I’m really excited but I was wondering…how do you ask them to pay after the lesson? What’s a good way to bring it up?

Thanks guys!

is this private tutoring?

gun point works the best for me, but the downside is that they never show up for the second session.

just kidding. But you should have made arrangements with the parents.

pay should be discussed before you agree to tutor. naturally, once the session’s over, you can remind them, but it’s likely that they’ll be ahead of you on that.

Yeah, this is private tutoring. The parents and I are actually emailing back and forth making arrangements right now, so I should mention it now before the lesson starts? For those of you who tutor for pay, do you guys ask them to pay in cash?

I’ve done private tutoring and usually the parents pay without needing to be reminded. If they need a push, say something like “Before we make arrangements for our next session, it would be great if we could figure out a pay schedule.”

And yes, for private students I took payment in cash. If you don’t really care, tell them to pay you with whatever method they prefer.

I would just wait and see what happens. My guess is that the parent will have money for you at the session.
