So I know the school has the SoC which has a major in film/TV/radio. But in terms of finding internships in Chicago in the TV business, are there a good deal of opportunities. I know that it’s a major city, but it’s not like LA or even NYC where they have TV shows being filmed or studios and stuff. Just curious.

Also (kinda related), are the NU newspaper and TV station (you have one, right? I’m not imagining this?) completely dominated by the Medill kids?

The Daily Northwestern is a media entity completely separate from Medill. Some Medill students choose to contribute to it while some do not. I believe the same thing goes for the television station, but I’m not as certain as I am on the newspaper.

As a radio broadcaster, I know that many of my fellow radio friends have gotten jobs/internships in radio. I’m aware of one or two TV people as well that have done things – but Medill obviously has the one-up, especially with JR connections.

The RTVF major generally is much more of a film major than the other two, and as such most of your RTVF friends will be shooting and acting in the numerous student films on campus.

That being said, I advise you to check out Chicago Field Studies, (a program where you do an internship for one quarter instead of academic classes), which may have what you are looking for.
