<p>'Twas the night before college
and all through the house
Both the parents were stirring
and son, and pet mouse,
The suitcases were packed
by the doorway with care,
With hopes that all shopping
will be finished THERE.
The student was nestled
all snug in his bed,
While visions of college days
danced in his head.</p>

<p>It’s late and I’m going to bed - anyone care to continue the rhyme?</p>

<p>The night before college
Five miles to the west
A mother is wondering if
she’ll get any rest.</p>

<p>The man-boy is out
He is visiting friends
Last moments together
As their childhood ends.</p>

<p>We’re not ready to go
The car is not packed.
And the living room
Still holds boxes in stacks.</p>

<p>He’ll be home soon
He’ll sleep in the car.
Promises promises
We have to drive far.</p>

<p>Leave in 12 hours
And travel for four
Oh here he is
He comes through the door.</p>

<p>And so I exclaim
As I shut off the light
Sweet dreams and good luck
College stars shine bright!</p>

<p>First thing in the morning
Panic Abounds
I have so much to do
Making the rounds</p>

<p>The cleaner
The tailor
The market
And more
Gas station
The bank and
ye olde Bookstore</p>

<p>… c’mon guys … rhyme away here!</p>

<p>I’ll go the office
and finish my chores
Race home to load
And lock all the doors.</p>

<p>Pile in the car
Say bye bye to Myrtle
And off we all go like
A flock of turtles!</p>

Third time’s a charm?
Even tho it’s a repeat
Won’t need an alarm.</p>

<p>The stuff is still piled up
Looks just like last year
But it still feels exciting
Heading down there from here</p>

<p>Twin XLs for this school
Leave the regulars home
DH says no room for all
Three of us to come</p>

<p>I think he’s wrong
But how could I tell?
S won’t do the packing
til the last warning bell.</p>

<p>Who’d a thunk I would be here
Mixed among the 2010s
But it sure is good company
Just need andi to chime in.</p>

<p>You guys are making me misty-eyed thinking about my own last night before college…exactly 30 years ago Sept 1st…it was the first and only time I ever needed as sleeping pill!</p>
