Hey everyone,
I’m a student in my final year of my Ph.D program in Experimental Psychology at an R2 university. I recently applied for a major research internship at a hospital that conducts behavioral health research. I am currently a semifinalist for the position at the moment. The search coordinator even said my resume was extremely impressive.
However, I recently learned of a massive, potential blow to my application if I don’t resolve it ASAP. I emailed two of my references who I listed on my application and learned about the following: 1.) The first one specifically requested me to not list her anymore since she’s been retired for three years and is not willing to be a reference for anyone at this point (not just me in other words). 2.) I got an automatic reply from the second one that he is on leave this semester.
Now, I’m kinda pancking at the moment. I was told that I had to follow up with more application materials by this Monday at the latest (hence why I filled it out when I did). I got one of my supervisor from when I was an adjunct at a community college to serve as a reference but I’m crossing my fingers that one from the small liberal arts college where I visited this academic year will be a reference too (even though the position went horribly).
What are other options I could explore to try and get a reference in a pinch? I’m running out of options sadly. They also need to be professional and not personal too.
