Two Airline Tickets--Where to Go?

I never win anything, but just found out that I won two airline tickets (no strings attached) to any city in the US. I’m not sure where to go. I live in MA–so right now, I’m thinking somewhere warm. I’ve been to Florida a few times (took each kid to Disney, went to Red Sox Spring training two years ago, and went to a Superbowl in Jacksonville). I’ve never been to Miami and was wondering if that might be a place to visit for a long weekend. I’m not particularly interested in sitting on a beach–I’d like to do something more active. We’ve been to San Francisco, New Orleans, Santa Fe, and LA a number of times. Plus, H travels to NYC for business all the time and we’ve lived in the DC area. Wondering if there are sights to see in Miami? Also–any other suggestions for places that are warmer than MA are welcome.

Taos or Sienna New Mexico would be a great weekend retreat…or maybe Savannah GA.

Sedona Arizona. Not warm but Seattle is a great city.

Actually, we are having lovely weather in Seattle right now, highs in the high 50s and sunny today.

How about San Diego? Or fly to San Francisco and tour the wine country?

Is this only continental U.S. or could you go to Hawaii?

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Barcelona,Spain.

Chattanooga, TN.

Long weekend from Massachusetts, in the US, warm.

Luxury hotel in Orlando (the Grand Hyatt has a truly great swimming pool).
Atlanta.
Miami.
Hilton Head.
Dallas or Houston or Austin.
Tampa.
Nashville.

I’d make a list of cities that were within a two to three hour flight, check out their tourist sites and see what appealed to me.

Congrats!! I’ve never won anything in my life except a couple of tickets to see Tori Amos, but that was fabulous!

I second everyone who said Seattle - we are having a fantastic January! My daffodils think it is March :)

San Diego is a good choice with more predictable weather than Seattle. Tucson/Phoenix? Palm Springs (have you been to the Joshua Tree park)?

If your tickets do not limit you to just the continental US, and if you can spend a little bit more time than just a long weekend, Honolulu would be a great choice!

Since you’re only traveling for “a long weekend”, I’d recommend no more than a 2 hour flight or so.

How about Charleston? Charming, and certainly warmer than MA. It’s quite walkable, the historic tours are terrific, and wonderful restaurants. Very southern attitudes and friendliness.
If you are willing to go for longer than a weekend, I’d also recommend Arizona (Phoenix/Scottsdale/Sedona).

For a weekend…I agree…Charleston…or Savannah. Maybe Nashville (but it won’t be as warm). For a somewhat longer time…how about San Antonio? We loved the Riverwalk there and it was perfect for three or four days.

I think I have only won something once in my life. And it was 2 plane tickets to anywhere a certain airline flew. We actually flew to Seattle. SIL at the time was finishing up her physical therapy degree at UPS. Remember going out to Orcas Island for a few days. D1 was just a baby.

ditto Charleston …or Savannah

Go to Miami. Wear summer clothes. Eat at Joe’s Stone Crab and people watch (and walk) in South Beach. Enjoy some Cuban food. Ride rental bicycles on the tram road in Shark Valley, steering around the alligators. A busy but doable long weekend. Fun in the sun! (Who did you say you were taking with you? It is snowing here again. I am available.)

Agree that if you had longer than a weekend, I’d suggest CA or HI. For a shorter time period, I’d not want to have more than one leg if at all possible so you’re not spending all your time in transit. We love Williamsburg, VA. This time of year, I’m not sure what the weather is like but suspect it’s much warmer than where you are.

Williamsburg is a great idea. It’s OK in March and nice in April. Feb. might be OK, but not great. Try not to go on a big spring vacation week, such as right around Easter. Too many kids there on vacation trips.

My vote would be charleston too. I also like Miami because of South Beach.

Why stop at Miami? a 3 hour or so flight from Logan can get you to San Juan PR!

Thanks all for the suggestions. Our tickets are for the continental US. We’d probably leave on a Thursday and come back late on Monday or Tuesday morning. We’ve been to Taos and Sedona and also did a Williamsburg trip with our kids. Seattle and San Diego sound great, but might be too far for a short trip. Right now, I’m leaning toward Miami or Savannah (have been to Hilton Head and Sea Island). One other possibility–which is a little out there is Marfa, Texas. My H read an article about the town, which has become a mecca for modern artists (Dan Flavin installation and others). H has suggested going there several times. Has anyone been to Marfa? Is it worth a visit?

Don’t know marfa, Texas. But we enjoyed San Antonio, Tx when we lived in Texas. Probably too early for the bluebonnets and all … but a nice river walk town for a weekend getaway.

Oh … and I LOVE Savannah! Very romantic … went there for 20th anniversary. So much history, good food, lovely lovely homes … ah … :)

Friends heading toward Austin Texas for big music/arts fest in March. Might want to check it out.
