New York state has passed a law requiring that (all legal contracts be written) in simple, understandable English
(A)all legal contracts be written
(B)all legal contracts being written
©all legal contracts have to be written
(D)the writing of all legal contracts is
(E)when writing legal contracts, it should be

i choose C, why is C wrong and A right?

The Arts and Crafts movement at the turn of the twentieth (century was a revolt against the uniformity of objects mass-produced) by the factories of the industrial revolution.
(A)century was a revolt against the uniformity of objects mass-produced
(B)century revolted against objects that were mass-produced and uniform
©century, being a revolt against uniform, mass-produced objects
(D)century was revolting against mass-produced, uniform objects
(E)century has revolted against uniformity in mass-producing objects

the answer is A and what i dont understand is why A is correct. isn’t revolt a verb? the arts and craft movement can be a revolt?

  1. C is a little redundant ("requiring" and "have to be"); I know A is fine in English although I can't really explain why (hence why I am not an English tutor :) )
  2. "Revolt" can also be a noun.

As MITer noted:

REVOLT

1.
rise in rebellion.
"the insurgents revolted and had to be suppressed"

an attempt to put an end to the authority of a person or body by rebelling.
"a countrywide revolt against the central government"
