This is intended to provoke thought and discussion as much as get an answer. I do promise to let you know the outcome in a few days.
Student: 3.95 GPA out of 4.0 (none of this “weighted” GPA). One of two highest in well respected high school’s graduating class of around 200 (school does not rank though).
Overall ACT 32 (99th percentile).
Did NOT take SAT or any SAT II’s (not required by any other school and only “recommended” by Yale).
Was on track to be college gymnast until knee ligaments exploded two years ago, so NO support as athlete.
Other EC’s unimpressive.
So the student has what it takes to do fine at Yale but nothing to stand out EXCEPT TWO HUGE hammers
student is an URM; specifically Hispanic and
student is a legacy (dad went to Yale).
No hedging: getting accepted or not?
PS: Yale is the ONLY Ivy applied to and at this point LEANING AGAINST going even if accepted.

Essays and recommendations were good enough to get an acceptance from every other school applied to; only Yale is pending. But none of them were Ivies.

MAL77: Funny! I can’t believe Harvard did that after he provided them with a path to salvation! Yale allows ACT to substitute for SAT and SAYS that SAT II’s are only “recommended”.

So as described above 3.95 UNweighted GPA. 32 ACT (99th%ile), a legacy (Mom went) AND an URM (hispanic). Recommendations and essays good enough to get into EVERY other school applied to (no other ivies).
But not good enough to get into Yale!
Thise who say “it’s all about being a legacy or an URM” have been proven wrong.
