two questions.. essay topic& additional info section

<p>i have a couple questions…
first some opinions on what would be a better essay topic for the personal statement/long-ishh essay component for the common app.

  1. my mom’s brush with breast cancer, an analysis of our relationship, what she has taught me, etcetc…
  2. a narrative on a month long kayaking trip i went on a couple summers ago, how it helped me discover myself, leadership, etcetc…</p>

<p>the other q is-
is it better to attach an additional writing sample or an essay for the “additional info” section of the common app??</p>

<p>My understanding was that the additional info section is to say something you didn’t get a chance to (ie why you quit the tennis team after 2 years, a sudden drop in grades, etc.). But I could be wrong.</p>
