Hello all! I’m new to the forums, but I browse this site all the time, and after “researching” I have come across two questions regarding my essays.

First: Is it okay to push the envelope in college essays? For example, my user name “Shaymaster” means master of tea. Shay in arabic means tea. I intend to write my common app essay about tea and my tea business. However, I wonder, if I wanted to build suspense by talking about the screeching tea pot in Jordan and Syria as a loud boom without revealing I was talking about tea would that be pushing it?

Second: What is makes for a better activities essay? Something very personal and unique like something you started on your own or an activitiy where you have been recognized nationally?

I apologize for the long, perhaps verbose post. Thanks!
