Two quick questions regarding Duke admissions

Do you think that sending only your ACT and no SAT IIs will be looked down upon or put me at a disadvantage? if so… how much

How do you guys think the duke lacrosse thing will affect next year’s ED admissions.

I don’t know about 1, but as for 2:
I think that any effect the lacrosse case had would be more for the class of 2010 (in terms of yield), and 2011 (in terms of application #s). The whole thing has really quieted down in the last year, and the fact that the guys were cleared and the prosecution (aka Nifong) was completely discredited should be enough to counter any damage that the university’s reputation may have suffered in the minds of potential applicants. I think that the number of ED apps decreased slightly this year (correct me if I’m wrong), and the number of RD apps was the 2nd highest ever.

WGDS is correct in re analysis of no. 2. In fact, YIELD (no accepted and coming) was much higher than expected! No. 2 did not reduce the no of kids applying OR coming when admitted. In re no. 1, yes, I think you would be far better off sending them ALL of your test scores - the more data they have on a student, the more they have a full picture. If you’re competitive for Duke you will have to take those SAT IIs for other schools (some that absolutely require them) as well - so just send them all. Duke will use the best of the lot.

i was referring to ED only

1… I’d say you are fine sending the ACT instead of the SAT… but please send in some SAT II’s… the SAT IIs are much more specific than the ACT.

2: ED apps are going to be around 1500 next year… prediction! The Duke lax case will have little to no effect on future admissions at Duke.

I would strongly suggest sending them SAT II scores. Even for ED.

Yeh, I’d send all of your scores. If you took them and don’t send them it looks like you didn’t take them. As long as you didn’t do really really badly on your SAT II’s I don’t see sending them as hurting you.
