Two random questions

Wow. That’s a new one. In my day you went as a platoon.

Oh, well. Times change, I suppose.

So from Zaphod’s earlier comment, was there more running, or more pushups/situps/etc.? Because I love pushups and situps, but I hate running (I don’t suck at it, just hate it).

Ditto, although I DO suck at it now, 20 years later. :(

You are a treasure! Pass the merlot (if there’s any left), please. :D

Still a lot of running…lot of push ups/situps etc…Just buy good running shoes.

My son said if you run 3-4 miles 3 to 4 times a week, do 100 pushups, 100situps and 100 leg lift flutter kicks a day you will be in good shape. He did this workout religiously from when he got home from the Summer Seminar until I-Day and he said he breezed through plebe summer.

I doesn’t matter how much you run. There will always be one girl who can’t walk and she’ll take all the heat. You know, because she can’t run two miles at 9 minutes a mile. And she’ll get away with it too, because she’s a girl. Just never come in last, or do. It doesn’t matter. If you buy into the system, they’ll accept you and cover for every one of your faults, even if it’s gross obesity or incompetency. Yup. Helps if you’re a minority too.

Oh, oh, I’m getting flashbacks to last summer! I’m gonna duck and cover! Maybe that one’ll just fly right on by…

:)

Oneironaut, maybe you should add “That was my experience!” :)

Being a mid-distancer/sprinter on the track team, I have a VERY different definition of “short distance” runs than all of you. I’ve never once considered a 3-4 mile run anywhere near short, lol.

momof1-

Get the merlot! Fast! :D

what i meant by “short” is the shortest run (in my opinion) thats considered “going for a run”.

Their program during the summer builds your running amounts and speed. After Easter, my son started running a couple miles per day at around 7mph pace, I think, and lifted weights most days. He ran after he lifted. Then he increased the amount about 4 weeks before I Day. He swam a few times a week (maybe 20 min of laps). He did well during Plebe summer.

Try to not get yourself all stressed out about it…Truly, as long as you are fit, you will be fine. It is humid and you are rushing around but they make you drink water and also make you go to sleep relatively early. My son fell asleep the minute he hit the bed.

I am trying to shop for running shoes online, because I can’t find any running stores remotely close to my house, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about these shoes. I know there are alot of serious runners on this site, so any advice on shoes would be greatly appreciated.

ASICS? Men’s GEL-1110?
http://www.amazon.com/ASICS-Mens-GEL-1110/dp/B000CD6DII/ref=pd_sbs_a_4/103-3607810-8592632?ie=UTF8&qid=1173575766&sr=1-23

The reviews are mixed, so I didn’t know what to think.

i wouldnt buy running shoes online. you really should try them on and make sure you like them.

Danbrenn…If you want a serious running shoe, one that is worth every penny, it’s the ASICS GEL KAYANO…brace yourself, it lists for 130$. With a kiddo that had some knee pain from years of intense swimming, our doctor told us not to scrimp on running shoes for her pre-USNA training. We bought one pair to take to Plebe summer, and when I showed up in August hand-delivered a second pair.

You might consider going online to RoadRunner sports. They have a very very easy return policy if the shoe size doesn’t work for you.

And we discovered once I was able to shop in the mid store, that they sell these same shoes for close to 40% off these prices I’d already paid for 2 pairs. So I happily informed my Plebe it was no HER turn to buy her own shoes, ‘locally!’

If you don’t want to fork over that kind of money - you still might consider Road Runner Sports. Amazon uses all kinds of vendors - so sometimes returning involves more paperwork, but RRSports is direct and reliable and reasonable.

Good luck running!

^^^^^
Ditto peskemom. ASICS GEL KAYANO is the same shoe that my kids use for cross country. When purchasing these shoes, it is important to make sure that a trained salesperson observes your running pattern so they can reccomend the correct shoe. These shoes will help runners avoid shin splints and other injuries associated with running.

The return policy for this brand of running shoe is very liberal. My children have returned these shoe for replacements with no problem.

My son mentioned this after his Candidate Visitation Weekend. The trick is to know which shoe you need or to get a recommendation from a qualified salesperson.

Thanks for the advice, I guess its time to find some money… Just curious, will they care this summer if the shoe has alot of color on the sides like most asics do?

From the Permit to Report:

While GA is quoting accurately from the Permit to Report…I can say that our Plebe for summer 06 used her Asics Kayano Gel shoes - and had NO problem - She only used them for running, as stated - and wore the New Balance issue white shoes for all other prescribed situations
