What kind of graphing calculator does Exeter require that you have for math courses? Is it the TI-89?

Yes, it’s the 89…although I got away with using 83+ for two years
They sell calculators in the bookstore. And also, if you don’t want to buy one, I think you can borrow one from security for free.

Thank ya kindly, missus.

i really want the ti-84+ silver edition because it comes with SAT/ACT prep questions preloaded… and it supports through precal (what i’m doing now), where as the ti-89 is mainly for calc (and geom),right?

I just took geometry with a TI-30 and it was fine, though my school doesn’t use graphing calculators for geometry.
Did anyone else find it a little weird that there was practically no geometry on the Andover placement test?

Well if you got the Ti-89 you wouldn’t have to get a new one next year, too.

89 is best because the teachers only teach you how to use the 89… I’m not sure if they are familiar with the 84. and for SAT/ACT prep… you could always get a prep book, right?

Andover will just ask you how much geometry you’ve studied because it’s hard to measure proof ability on a placement test and further, the lack of preparation will balance if you try trig or even calc without a proper foundation.

Personally though, for rising freshman, I recommend saying that you don’t have any Geo experience (even if you do) that way you can take Math 310 which serves as direct prep for the Math 600 entrance exam–Honors BC calc. But if you can place higher than Math 340 then disregard my advice b/c you’ll take BC calc in 10th grade anyway.

Get the TI-89 as others have said–if you take calc, it will do derivatives, etc. for you.

Xgods, you live in DC? I live in Dc as well and go to Choate. Where’d you go before andover?

Mmmm…rather not say on public forums. PM me if you want details. Where’d you go?

Sure, I will…I went to St. Alban’s and left after 8th grade.

Good school! Check your PMs.
