For those that have been through the mill, please respond by saying what the young person faced in the interviews with MOC or the MOC panel. Thanks.

I’ll add a few words here since you’ve posted this under the parent’s thread and I recall that interview like it was yesterday. My nerves were raw that day! He was all dressed up and I patted his shoulder and said, “Go do good things”. Then I proceeded to sweat bullets for a few hours. My son was interviewing for USNA & USMMA. The panel consisted of all academy graduates from all of the academies. They’d asked about ten questions he’d said. Below are a few that I can remember my son telling me he had a hard time with:

The panel consisted of all academy graduates from all of the academies. They’d asked about ten questions he’d said. Below are a few that I can remember my son telling me he had a hard time with:
-What is the biggest thing you’ve ever failed at & what did you learn from it?
-Name a great leader, past or present, who influenced you and why.
-What are your goals in seeking this nomination and what will you do as a graduate of an Academy.
-What types of values do you have that would recommend you as one of our country’s future leaders.

One of the guys on the panel told my son afterwards that the first question was one of the most important because most of the kids they interviewed hadn’t taken any big falls yet. Most were achievers and excelled at sports. Hope this helps in giving an idea at what they are looking for.

They asked my son a lot about his essay. They wanted to know what he knew about the Academies and finally, they wanted to know about what his parents thought of him serving and possibly being in harms way. It was all Academy grads from different academies and they were all scheduled for 45 mins. the same evening.

My son had his MOC interviews this past weekend. He relayed a number of questions including: Name four adjectives that describe you and why? How have you failed as a leader? Where did you spend your semester in Spain (I think they were trying to see if he could really speak Spanish fluently), Who do you consider to be a hero? What are your plans if you don’t go to the academy? Why do you want to go to the academy (very typical)? Who do you respect as a leader and why? Good luck! Note: he had is LOA already so he got the sense that the boards were not too tough on him versus others.

thank you for the information.
