Typical college schedule with extracurricular activities

What does a college schedule look like wth extracurricular activities such as marching band? How will the student have time for classes and time for band practice?

It’s not for the feint of heart. Those band kids burn the candle at both ends.

Like with any EC, you’ll have set times for group/individual practices that you’ll work your academic schedule around. Schools know this and will usually have practices after the “core” hours of school. You shouldn’t have a hard time fitting-in classes before practice. As far as a social schedule AFTER your practice, that’ll depend on how long your practices are. You’ll also have to fit-in studying, so that’ll either be between classes or in the evenings before/after band.

The school I’m going to this fall says that the kids in marching band actually have higher GPAs simply because the band’s schedule forces them to manage their time very efficiently. I’d expect that there would be similar results at other schools. When I enter this fall, I’m hoping that Marching Band in addition to ROTC will help keep my work habits in check.
A piece of advice from a friend is that you don’t just jump in and join as many things as you can fall of your freshman year; try and get a feel for college life and how you fit in first, then join what you feel you can fit in. Like for me, I probably will join one, maybe two clubs at the beginning because I know I need to commit time elsewhere.
