I’m a high school senior who will attending Case next year ($20000 per year scholarship) with a Biochemistry major and a pre-med track. How hard is biochemistry there? Is the work manageable? What is a typical day like?

Bump. Anyone?

Biochemistry is a major that’s gone out of vogue lately (note the rise of programs such as biomedical engineering and molecular biology/genetics). If you are serious about medical school, then choose a less difficult major that will allow you to boost your GPA as high as possible, as med schools have too many applicants with biology and related majors to choose from. Instead, pick a major in a field you really like (yes, it could be biochem), and that will translate to greater happiness and higher grades. In turn, your chances of getting into medical school (if that’s what you end up deciding), will be higher.

Note that there are Asian quotas at virtually all medical schools in the US, typically capped out at 25%. But Asian applicants make up 40-45% of all medical school applicants. Most of them are hard science majors. Do the math. Good luck at Case!
