Ok, so I’ve got plenty of people willing write recommendation letters for me, but I don’t want to have them write a letter and then find out that it isn’t what colleges are looking for in a recommendation letter. I know that certain colleges have a recommendation letter form that they provide, but since don’t really know which college(s) I want to apply to that doesn’t help. Is there a general format that they could follow for a recommendation letter that would be accepted by most colleges? What have the rest of you done regarding this issue?

Thanks in advance,

P.S. How many recommendation letters do you think I should send in an application? Is three too many?

I’m assuming that most teachers already know how to write a recommendation letter (from previous years). However, when sending them in, it should be 1 or 2 teacher recs, maybe a GC rec, and at most one outside person who knows you well (like a coach, boss, etc). Most colleges take the letter how it’s written. I did see a thread where a student posted his teacher recs:

Also, after asking them, I would provide the people with a resume and maybe some suggestions of what you want them to put on your rec.
