Hi, so I’m a junior right now at UCR (University of California, Riverside). I’m a sociology major. I plan on graduating at the end of Spring quarter 2012. I will have finished up my degree and graduation requirements by then. This coming up summer, I will be studying abroad in the UK. My cumulative GPA so far is 3.477, while my upper div GPA is 3.15 ( only 2 classes so far )

Okay so I have no clue about grad school. What is the process of applying and getting into grad schools? Particularly UCLA and NYU, two of the schools I want to go to.

What are grad school requirements? gpa/interview/personal statement?? is that it?

Do they look at Upper div GPA more heavily or just cumulative?

Also, what kind of GPA do you need to be competitive to get into these 2 grad schools with a sociology major?
