<p>Hello. I am majoring Electrcial and Computer Engineering, graduate. And I am an international student. Both UH and UNL offered me PhD admission and financial aid, so I gotta pick one up. UNL is better ranked in USNews while UH is located in Houston. Can anyone tell me which university I should choose?</p>

<p>there’s probably a difference in the kind of research the two schools specialise in, have you checked that out? be sure to choose the school which is better in the specific area of ECE you’re interested in. </p>
<p>which USNews ranking did you look at? don’t look at the undergraduate rankings for this, you’re doing a doctorate. your future employer will be looking at the quality of the doctoral program if he’s well-informed. UH is a much more comprehensive doctoral university and is known for its doctoral programs, including engineering - you may want to consider that too.</p>

<p>For ECE graduate program, UNL ranks around 80 on the USNews ranking, but I did not find UH’s ranking on it. So it seems that UNL is better. However, Houston is a good city that can provide me with much more job opportunities than the city of Lincoln. </p>
<p>By the way, which university has a better academic reputation in this country?</p>
<p>UNL has a reputation as a very solid flagship public that offers a good education, U of Houston is a commuter school and its academic reputation doesn’t seem that great.</p>
<p>Yeah, I would say University of Nebraska probably is better known for undergrad, but I am really not familiar with the graduate schools at either place. I think most people on CC would be more informed about undergraduate quality.</p>
<p>Thanks. I am really not familiar with the city of Lincoln. I just know it is not a huge city as Houston is, but I heard that Lincoln people are quite nice. And how is the climate there?</p>
<p>Lots of variety - will get over 100 several times during the summer, but below freezing and a fair amount of snow in the winter. Houston will be hot and muggy pretty consistently. </p>
<p>Lincoln is a great college town - big at ~240,000 people, but still seems pretty small. Nebraskans in general are pretty nice people. Not sure what it would be like as an international grad student, but as an out of state undergrad I had a great four years there.</p>
<p>Nebraska has more of a residential traditional college feel compared to UH which is pretty much a commuter school filled with locals that go take classes and leave. Academically I would say Nebraska is better though Lincoln aint that fun of a city :P</p>
