U Miami or Tulane for Biomedical Engineering, Biology or Public Health; Possibly Premed

Hi, I am trying to decide which university is better for the majors i listed, with the possibility of a professional interest of premed. Which gives more opportunity and/or financial aid. I am aware that umiami has an HPM program and what makes me wary is if I don’t get accepted to the program and am put at a professional disadvantage. I qualify for financial aid, they meet 100%. Though what also scares me is the limited housing for Umiami students past first year. How bad is the housing for student’s past 1st year. I don’t want to pay 3k a month for an apartment.

What draws me to Tulane is their public health strength and the lower student population. They meet 92% of need though are need blind. They have more housing for students.

Have you run the NPCs for these schools?

–Run net price calculators.
–Look through coursework available at each school in online course catalogs.

Yes, Tulane is about 12k per year. Umiami is 6k. Lol I realized Umiami is cheaper but at the end of my junior or even possibly sophomore year ima have to move off campus possibly. That’s a lot of money itself. :sob:. Compared to Tulane that is more resources in housing

Hoping Tulane is more generous :sob:

Apply to both. After you have been accepted you can decide between the two.

If you are a current Senior and looking at EA or RD applications, apply to both and see who gives you a better deal and which you like better after visiting. If you are a current Junior, you want to give it more thought, because Tulane gives a big boost to ED applicants.

Public Health is one of the most popular majors at Tulane and many students are pre med. So you will find solid class offerings and support, research opportunities are available to undergrads and the school is helpful in securing internships. Tulane guarantees housing for 3 years now (used to be 2).

My D is a current Public Health (not pre med) major at Tulane and has had tremendous opportunities. She was also accepted at UMiami and chose Tulane because of the housing worries at UMiami and a better financial deal at Tulane.

How competitive are those internships and research. Is the premed support solid? Also if you don’t mind me asking what was the EFC( don’t answer if it’s too personal :sob:). Thank you, I already applied ED. Was having second thoughts and was thinking of rescinding my application and changing EA to Umiami to ED1

I have ED to Tulane and EA to Umiami. Was having second thoughts of changing Umiami to ED and rescinding my Tulane appreciate. Or just deciding to ED 2 instead

Are you a Louisiana resident? If yes, Tulane meets 100% need if your AGI is below $100K.

What was giving you second thoughts? Have you visited both campuses?

I’m not and they supposedly only meet 92%. Also no I haven’t. Just which is cheaper. Umiami expenses would skyrocket if I don’t live in a dorm. Also idk, I’m a very indecisive person so I’m also just trying to find out which would give the best program for biomed or public health and premed if I choose to go into.
