Michigan. This is just my opinion, I don’t have any data.

I’d go with Michigan. The caliber of the schools is just too different.

Michigan~I live in SoCal, and let me just tell you that the people at Michigan are smarter, nicer, and harder working than those at SC. I have many friends who attend USC, and they love it, but even in California, Stanford, Cal, UCLA, and some of the Claremont Colleges are considered to have a better academic reputation. SC’s rep is very regional, Michigan’s is internationally renowned.

Also, SC is literally smack in the middle of a ghetto, it has NO college town. Michigan has Ann Arbor, considered by many to be one of the top college towns in the nation. South Central LA was ranked as the 3rd most dangerous city in the US.

Also, Michigan is much more renowned as a research school than SC.

So basically, go with UM.

wow, very helpful explanation guys. thx.

Also, just to add, Michigan has the largest living alumni base in the world (w/over 500,000 members). their furthest alumni chapter is on the moon (not even kidding, Apollo 15 was an all U-M crew, and they took papers up with them to establish an alumni station there). Great for jobs post-graduation :)
