U of A 2015

Hi I am a class of 2015 MT major I am like 75% sure I am going to U of A. So If there are any other BFA kids (MT or acting) or any advice I would really appreciate it!

Hi!

I'm currently a Sophomore in the MT program at UofA and would love to answer any questions you have!! Its a really amazing program here. You get conservatory style training with the feel of a big college campus. The theatre/voice/dance classes are all small so you get tons of one on one time and all of the professors are very interested in helping you improve. You also become very close with your class and that dynamic has made my experience that much more enjoyable. You have a group of people that are always there, who know you really well, and are interested in the same thing.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about the MT program.. I know what I just said was kind of general. I really hope you come here! It's wonderful. Facebook me and I can give you some other people in the programs names and even some of your future classmates that I know are coming here!

Please read up on the posts for this school before you make your final choice.

Hi I have been reading and there are only negative things being said on CC, but whenever I talk to current students they seem to love it. It is so confusing! and what is this about BA taking BFA spots? I had never heard anything about this until now. and I've heard it is a great program except there is some catty-ness. Has that been your experience Cait? all the negative energy has me reeling and so confused! Also how much academics do you get? and ear training/ music theory/ piano? Do you get those classes? and how do you feel about the cut system? has anyone been cut your year? why?

Thank You!

I'm glad caitface is here to answer your questions.

On the issue of BA students taking BFA spots, in the past, BFA students were cut after re-auditioning to stay in the program and their replacements were BA students who auditioned to get in and also transfer students. The commitment to the BFA students who went through a rigorous audition process to be admitted as freshmen seems to "wane" after one year and if they find current BA students that they like better, these students are offered a slot and some BFA students are let go. There are lots of posts on CC documenting this in the past with students from U of Arizona sharing these statistics, as well as a faculty member. Try to read all the threads on that here as it will provide background information and then get the "numbers" straight from U of A (if you can.....that is another issue as faculty from U of A have contradicted themselves on these numbers in the past right here on CC).
