My son is a freshman in the UM LSA Honors Program. He made the mistake of singing up for too many classes and it looks like he may end up with a 3.1 GPA, which apparently under the 3.4 GPA required by the Honors program.

If he drops one of his classes from this semester, he would end up having a “W” for this class. How does the “withdraw” affect his GPA? That will most probably govern his decision.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Not neccessarily – they will look at the overall context of the students body of work ie GPA EC’s Essay ETC

Essay’s are Extremely Important!!! Most Applicants know that GPA A/B avg is base criteria and EC’s obviously help… therefore that leaves Essays as the unique variable that will differentiate you from the rest of the pack
