U of M ranked as the best disability friendly university in U.S.

As someone who is now mostly confined to a wheelchair (after 2.5 years at U of M as a person without any sort of physical disability), I must say that this comes really as no surprise but it is still a nice recognition.

Michigan has been absolutely fantastic about providing both formal and informal accommodations for me (which leaves me spoiled because then I go other places which are decidedly not friendly to those with disabilities!)

I hope your confinement to a wheelchair is temporary romanigypsyeyes. Good to hear Michigan is doing a good job accommodating students and faculty with disabilities.

That’s awesome! Though I didn’t end up applying to UMich for undergrad it seemed like a really amazing school when I visited. Glad those feelings are confirmed

Thanks, Alexandre. Hoping the wheelchair is temporary but it’s looking less and less likely. I have Lupus (and a few other autoimmune diseases) so my accommodations are going to be all over the map depending on where my body wants to flair.

Autoimmune diseases are generally really hard for people to wrap their heads around but luckily all of the people I’ve encountered so far have been phenomenal about just trusting me about the pain I’m going through even if they don’t understand exactly what it is lol.

A good friend of mine has Lupus. I do not understand the particulars, but I know it is very serious and dangerous. I wish you all the best, and I am happy Michigan is taking good care of its own.

I also have a disability and I’m currently going to Michigan. They have been super helpful and all of my professors help me with whatever I need. I’m loving it so far.
