U of South Carolina Fall 2025 Waitlisted

Continuing the discussion from U. South Carolina Class of 2029 Official RD Thread:

So if I’m hearing right, offers start to roll out late march into mid may? Stressful next two months once again!

That’s the way I understand it as well. And will all be based on how many acceptances they start to get from these decisions released today and from EA

Did anyone who was waitlisted NOT get the offer to spend 1st semester abroad?

If the last 2 years from the common data set data are accurate the chances are very slim to get off the waitlist. Moving on and we’ll be pleasantly shocked if we get off of it.

We did not.

Something just seems odd on the common data set metrics. I’m going to call the admissions office on Monday to ensure we are interpreting the data correctly. It seems very odd that the numbers are so low when you read the prior year threads.

Definitely come back and share if you find out anything interesting. Have to move on regardless but if those numbers are true it’s a needle in a haystack chance.

Yeah definitely let us know what they say!

I literally know someone who was on waitlist and had put a deposit down at Tenn and then came off the wait list and accepted to SC. It would be bizarre that I know 1 of the 15 people .

I also have a friend that currently attends UofSC that got off the waitlist lol. So we know 2/15 people allegedly .

I heard several people from my son’s school and that getting off WL is not uncommon. That must not be correct.

I agree. - I know 3 kids who got off of the waitlist last year. Two were in March and one was late May

In our situation if we don’t hear anything before early May we’ll probably just wrap it up and move on. Even if something comes late may.

The CDS you are referencing (with 15 admitted off the WL) is fall of ā€˜23. If the student you know entered college fall of ā€˜24, they aren’t in the same data set. The ā€˜23 CDS is correct and the ā€˜24 CDS hasn’t yet been released.

WL metrics and movement are different every year and are impacted almost completely by the school’s institutional needs/priorities. And last year saw increases in WL movement across the nation as students were awaiting the FAFSA fallout and the increase in app numbers per student. Every year is different. Here’s a great resource to follow in the weeks/months ahead. I imagine Sara will highlight ā€˜25 WL trends as they start to emerge:

So… totally get that every year is different but just spoke to someone who’s son has many friends at his prestigious private school who were waitlisted last year and got in later and they attend USC now.

My question on these stats that are publicly available is the number admitted…. I think there is a step missing in the data. Students who agree to be put on the waitlist and then get off often have already committed to another school so the 15 isn’t just those that were ā€œoff the waitlistā€ it’s those that were off AND decided to actually attend USC.

I think you were looking for this when I mentioned 30k EA applications. Found this in the q and an about the abroad program. 60k apps for the Fall 2025 class.

Is anyone considering the study abroad option? My son is actually very interested in it. I’m worried he would miss out on rush , football , and friends for sophomore housing options ….

Yes. And yes, they will miss it. But it’s a guaranteed auto admit in Spring pending getting a 2.75 gpa minimum.

I just spoke to the admissions office.

2024 was an unprecedented waitlist year. They have no idea how this year will go.

The Verto program doesn’t work for nursing or business. Other majors all good to go.

We are highly encouraging our daughter to consider it. They can rush as Sophomores. They will make amazing friends through this experience. I know people whose children have done this at other schools. My son is a junior at U of Utah and in Barcelona right now for this semester and having the time of his life.

Thank you that is helpful! Maybe it’s better they don’t rush anyways first year - although my son is super athletic played football for his high school four years. Is your older son doing the vertuo program? What program / location is your daughter considering? I would want to make sure they are in dorms or have a room - I’m not sure I like a host family idea.
My son also was business but wants to do pre law more and more so unsure what that means for the major - maybe something like poly sci …
