U.S. Presidential Scholars program

Does anyone know how long after the invitations are mailed out before they post the list of candidates to their website. I know the mailing is scheduled to go out tomorrow (2/23/14) but I’m wondering if anyone has experience with the time until the results are available online. Thank you!

Sorry, I don’t remember.

So in 2012 it seemed as if it were posted the day the letters were sent

In 2011 it came out on the 20th (I can’t tell when the letters were mailed). It might’ve been the same for 2010.

So I’m assuming that the list will come out tomorrow, probably in mid-afternoon or early evening, based on the posting times here on CC.

I still cringe when i think about all those essays…

The list is posted.

Yes it is posted thank you. Proud to say D1 is a candidate. She is not even tuned in to the program so I am going to let the mailed invite surprise her.

Congratulations to your daughter.

I don’t know much about this program – was not even aware it existed when my kids were in HS. I know now it’s a very big deal!

It’s a cool program, but it only goes so far. It is announced too late to help with college admissions, and there is no $$$ scholarship attached. Also, the kids may or may not get to meet the President. The year my kid did it, they met the Vice-President. There are also a lot of essays to write. But you get to meet a lot of cool people, and it’s an interesting program. My son definitely thought it was worth doing the application.

I was thrilled when my son was on the list! He decided not to do the essays, but I’m not sure being invited didn’t help with college admissions. He did send it out as an update. He didn’t want to meet the president anyway.

Plus, your organizations need to register and so many that I volunteer for do not. Two years ago I tried to get them to register and then I gave up.

Congrats to your D, SeniorMom! I was (pleasantly) surprised to see that my S is also on the list. Are students notified by letter to the home, or is it through school like NMSF? As far as I know, my S is unaware of the program, so I will let him be surprised. Not sure how he’ll feel about writing more essays…well, I am actually pretty sure that I know exactly how he will feel! The big question is whether he will decide it’s worth the effort.

My daughter received the PS invitation letter today. Although it will be another essay writings after completing college application and chance to be a finalist would be low, it’s worthy effort with less stress for her.

Thanks for the update @Dad2013. My son received his letter at home on Monday as well. Glad it came to the house rather than school - much greater chance of actually receiving it! I agree that it’s worthy of the effort. The question is whether my son feels the same.

Advice please - my daughter’s high school counselor told her it is not worth sending an update to colleges (regarding being a candidate, at this stage); I find that surprising. Does anyone know if it would help with college admission?

I agree with your counsellor. It’s automatic to be PS just based on SAT/ACT score.

Thanks!
