UAB vs Mercer for Pre Med

I have full scholarship for both of these colleges . I am a GA Resident and would like to choose the college which would prepare me for MCAT and has the better Pre Med track.

Colleges do not prepare you for the MCAT. That is on you as a student.

You can take the required courses for medical school applicants at both of these colleges.

Where do you feel you would like to be for the next four years?

I would visit Mercer and try to learn as much about the program from pre med students (preferably graduating seniors).

What major would you have?
Ask what needs to be done if one wants to change majors (just in case - most freshmen do… or want to and can’t because their college doesn’t allow them to switch easily).
Would you have a personal adviser?
What perks come with your full ride?
And is it a true full ride (no net cost, zero loans) or is it full tuition?

Which did you choose and how did you make your decision?

What questions do you have now? People will provide guidance if you give a bit more information.

Sometimes, such big scholarships come with perks such as honors program, a special dorm, study abroad or experiential learning funds, etc.
I must say UAB has a nation-wide top reputation for anything Health related.

I assume you mean the hospital system (which indeed is top notch), not the undergrad.

Go where you feel you fit in best and will be happiest. Happier students are more successful students.

And while you say now you want to go to med school, med school is 4 long years away (at the very least) and you may discover a career that suits you, your goals and ideals better than medicine. (Also OChem changes a lot of people’s mind about being a pre med.)

Which school do you think will offer you better opportunities in case medicine turns out not to be your end goal?

But, congratulations on having 2 great options to choose from. You can be successful pre-med at either. Mercer does offer strong advising for its pre-meds and seems to have a better than the national average track record with its pre-meds getting into med school (despite not restricting who applies). Mercer also has a special relationship with Mercer SOM and offers special advising for pre-meds who want to go to Mercer SOM.
