Prompt #1: describe the world you come from ex: family, community/school - how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

I am a thief. I stole the fate of becoming an only child. I stole my mother’s 9 months, staying inside her stomach and took advantage of the protection she gave me. I stole her love. I stole all her money from the day I was born. I even stole her freedom. It is an uncontrollable urge for me to steal, no matter how precious the object is: from a piece of paper to love. That piece of paper that informed me of who I am, where I was born, what gender am I, and who my parents are is like a seal of fate. For all I know, I am still a thief; a thief still stealing from my mother: money, freedom, choices, time, and love.
The way for me to express I love my mother is difficult. She gave me everything and yet I still have no idea how to repay her, she shaped me for who I am right now but I have always disappointed her and make her frustrated on how to deal with this teenage girl.
My mother practically raised me single handedly since I was 6 years old, I do not know how she managed to support both of us financially and emotionally. Sometimes, these two factors became unbalanced. For example, she had to work all day and eventually she overlooked the feelings of her only daughter. I remember feeling frustrated why can’t she be like other mothers: helping me in homework, watching TV with me, play with me, or even just talk to me. I will always be placed in a daycare or have a babysitter whenever I am out of school. I was probably too young to understand everything that was going on and with my mother’s work; I felt no connection between the two of us. All I felt was how much she expected good grades from me in school and be a good little girl. And I failed fulfilling both of these expectations.
In school, I almost failed my classes. Outside of school, I became the girl without a father who acted recklessly and full of anger thinking why can’t I have a normal family like my all my friends have. My mother tried so hard helping me to understand that everything happened for a reason, but my immature got in the way and refuse to listen to anything she said. Thus, there is a transparent barrier formed between us. We see each other, but could not “hear” each other.
Over the years, I finally realized all the hard works she did. I matured and I have enough responsibilities and knowledge to understand everything my mother did. That barrier finally has some cracks and tiny holes in which I could “hear” and appreciate the efforts that she made to maintain our relationship. I want to repay and have a better relationship with her, I thought about everything she did for me; now is the time for me to think about everything that I should do for her. I don’t want to be a thief anymore; I just want to be my mother’s daughter.

Any suggestions and comments are welcome :)
