UC ACT to SAT conversions

I just calculated it out using the UC Eligibility Index table and found my individual index’s add up to the same as about a 1920-1940 SAT would. This seems like a bit of a stretch, but i guess numbers don’t lie. My question is, if i got a 28 on my english score, is it safe to say that my composite english/writing score to still be 28 assuming i got an 8-9 on my essay?

According to the red ACT book you may drop a point or 2

The ACT website says that the composite score will be unaffected by the writing score. How does that work?

your essay score is reported on a 2-12 scale as well as a separate combined english section and the essay score

the essay itself does not affect your composite, not even the combined english and essay score

we dont get points for working?
