Is it a disadvantage to me if I dont put anything in the additional comments box. I really have no idea what else to put. I have described my extracurriculars/school in my personal statement and I’m not applying to EOP. The only thing I can think of is that I have never taken an SAT/ACT class or had a tutor, but I doubt UC cares about that anyways. Help?

DD left it blank. It’s not a disadvantage. You don’t need another essay here.

what is DD? Btw is it a good idea to put that I never had a standardized test tutor? or is that just a stupid thing to do?

Its stupid.

ok thx zotan. Anyone have any other thoughts if leaving the comment box blank will hurt my application? I also still havent found out wut a DD is :P

dear daughter

Sorry If it came off as rude. I think It would be a negative on your application, rather than any kind of positive because there is no way the admissions officer is going to be able to verify that claim. On top of that, they wont devalue your SAT scores If you don’t say that because they assume you received no help during your preparation for it. Basically, it would be wasted space that would accomplish nothing.

I agree with zotan.

Here’s what I put for my add. comments:

I did not take Calculus BC my senior year because I took the AP Calculus BC test my junior year. I didn’t want to waste a year learning something I knew I could learn within a few weeks.

During May of my junior year, my parents separated and are now currently undergoing the process of getting a divorce. Their separation resulted in financial problems and is the reason behind my sudden need for multiple jobs.

In addition, my youngest sister was diagnosed with thyroid cancer during the first semester of my sophomore year. She underwent surgery and is still going through therapy. I believe my work habits were somewhat affected, but not enough to make any drastic changes. I did, though, get motivated enough to start volunteering at City of Hope, a medical center that specializes in the treatment of cancer. I still volunteer for City of Hope’s Beckman Research Institute.

Personally I’d say unless you have somethign that’s really worth saying, just leave it empty. Imagine yourself as a reader and after having read 100+ you get to one that has not 2 but 3 essays to read, worse of all the third essay was a complete waste of your time.

Should we treat the additional comments box as a personal statement (write an essay with a thesis/story) or should we just list facts which we want UC to know about us. What is the format supposed to look like? Please help me someone, I am living abroad in the Middle East and have no access to a guidance counselor or a phone to call UC.

Thank you
