UC Afrikan Student issuing demands, threatening staff

The Afrikan/African Student Union is issuing demands at both UCLA and UCSC.

The UCLA gaggle is demanding a 40 million dollar endowment and

Additionally, ASU said the university should establish the position of Black Student Financial Aid Officer, someone who would advocate for financial aid for previously dismissed students and ensure four years of housing for black students.

The African/Black Student alliance occupied a building, intimidating and terrorizing the staff.

The UCSC chancellor has agreed to all demands. I guess threatening and endangering staff gets you want you want.

The demands include separate housing, guaranteed free housing to any black student. Special financial aid counselors.

Oh…and incase someone doesn’t ‘understand’ From the representatives at UCSC…

So separate really CAN be equal.

Sounds like separate can be better - guaranteed free housing!

If I was a donor, I would pull my donations and let them know why. Money speaks. Loudly.

Welcome to lalaland.
Maybe these folks should spend some time on academics and getting internships.
Just a thought.

And people wonder why CA families are looking out of state…

The A/BSA at UCSC only wanted (and apparently got) a 4 year housing guarantee, not free, and restricted to a specific theme house.

Given that the group’s demands seem contradictory to each other (the number of students they wanted covered by the 4 year housing guarantee would likely exceed the capacity of the theme house (which is apparently already selective, requiring a supplemental application for interested students), particularly when the theme house’s capacity is reduced by the other demand to convert some rooms back to a lounge that it was before it was turned into rooms to increase capacity), perhaps giving them what they think they want will make them see the folly of their wishes… (as in “be careful what you wish for, you may get it”)

Note that UCSC offers various levels of housing guarantees anyway, but not restricted to any particular building in the campus housing: http://www.housing.ucsc.edu/guarantee/index.html

Demanded with a straight face and no hint of irony, I bet.

Can we separate these two incidents before further commenting? One was clearly creating an unsafe environment (UCSC) while the other was not (UCLA).
