<p>A student was awarded aid at Berkeley and UCLA and Riverside. Student EFC is 0 and is instate. Is there any significance to having the award in the form of a college scholarship vs need based? They gave 7k and 3.5k. </p>
<p>I just looked at the numbers again and it looks like it reduces student loan and self help bit. Not as much as the award, it is still replacing some need based aid but, wow such a package.</p>
<p>$7k and $3.5k are the total grants and scholarships, or the net prices?</p>
<p>Well, if it is a scholarship, keeping it all four years is dependent on units and gpa. If it is need based, and the families finances change for the better, then the aid may not be awarded for the full four years.</p>
<p>There is no family and there isn’t any gpa requirement that is stated at least. </p>

<p>Equals total COA. UCLA package similar but has some unsub loan and less w/s. And the UC packages are really extra great because the COA includes health insurance unlike the private packages. Amazing. This makes for a hard decision.</p>
<p>Looks like the net price is $7,950 (the sum of the loans and work study), not too far from (but probably a bit better than) what is expected for a California resident student with FAFSA EFC = $0.</p>
