UC application: when should portal activation emails come?

How long is too long?

How long after submitting the UC app should applicants expect to wait before receiving portal activation emails from each UC?

My son submitted back in mid-October – 5 or 6 weeks ago. His confirmation shows he applied to and paid for 7 of the UC campuses. Three (UCLA, UCSB, UCSC) have yet to send his portal info and one (UCSB) keeps sending generic “if you still need help applying” emails(?!). The others (UCB, UCD, UCM, UCSD) did send them/confirm and he set those up.

As deadline nears, it seems sort of concerning, no? He emailed the general UC admissions email and they said to contact the schools individually. He emailed each but has had trouble getting through by phone and has not received replies yet (but it’s only been 24 hours).

Advice?

Thanks!

My son hasn’t gotten portal info either (I’ve probably asked him to check his email 1,000 times  ). When he logs in though, it says the application has been submitted with a message to check emails frequently and no message about a portal. Are we sure they have a portal? Same thing for San Diego State - hasn’t gotten an email about a portal.

Several UC’s such as UCSB and UCSC may not send out student portal instructions until December.

UCLA does not send out student portal setup instructions. They have a separate application status portal which you can setup after Mid-December.

Each UC is it’s own campus. They evaluate applications differently and send out communications differently.

As was mentioned, UCLA doesn’t send any sort of official portal until after you are accepted. Then, newly admitted students need to go through several steps, with multiple authentication layers, in order to view financial aid and other info. It is always a bit of a frenzy for new UCLA students.

In the past, UCSB has sent portal info as late as January. They are pretty good about communicating via social media regarding when they are sending out portal info, acceptance notifications, etc.

Are you following the individual 2029 threads for the schools? If so, people usually ask/post about portal info on those threads.

If your son’s school uses SCOIR, UCSC and UCLA will send application confirmations through it.

Sadly no. Neither of my kids’ San francisco public high schools did!

I hadn’t but will. For some reason this didn’t come up with my eldest. Sounds like it’s not outside the norm though.

Thank you for clarifying! My son finished really early - vs my eldest -so I guess we never had time to worry about this last time.

S25 applied to the same schools and has received the same notifications as your son, so I wouldn’t worry. :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:
