UC Applications

I’m a junior in high school right now, looking at UC Berkeley. Is there anything special about the admission process that might differ from other schools? I know all UC’s only look at sophomore and junior year, anything else of interest?

They don’t take letters of recommendation. They typically don’t ask for first semester senior grades.

I keep hearing about the UC GPA? How is it different from a regular GPA?

it weights certain honors and ap classes.
so instead of a 4.0 you could get a 5.0 for a class. It’s just like a weighted GPA, but because many schools weight grades differently, it sort of standardizes it. I think someone else should answer this question more clearly since I suck at explaining things >.<

I’m not sure if you know this but, UCs have their own online/paper application and don’t use the common app which many privates do. The application is available starting Oct. 1 and the deadline is normally the end of November which means its due a month earlier than most of your other privates on Jan 1. The essay prompts are usually the same ever year, but differ from the ones I wrote for my other colleges, so it would be a good idea to look at them and get a good idea of what you are going to write, before the October.

I was never too clear on the whole UC GPA/ regular GPA but here’s the website that contains how many points each class is awarded depending on your school

What I do know is that UCs have a certain requirement that you have to fulfill and that certain classes are given different weights depending on what your school offers. This website has more info about it
